A vigorous engaging woman

I met Verna while I was conducting the census in 2010. She was my last call that day, so I was able to visit. We had a delightful conversation. I was newly retired teacher, just starting my travels in Europe. She was genuinely excited for me. A whole new world was opening up. For the next half hour she shared marvelous stories about travel, giving me expert advice on sites that I might enjoy. Her enthusiasm and joy were infectious. I only knew one woman her age that was so full of life and vigor, my mother, who passed in 2014 at 97. As I turn 70 in September, I will never forget my half hour with Verna. She has inspired me with the many possibilities of life and service in what has been called " the Golden Years". All of Verna's years were golden. I won't mourn, Verna's life is one to be celebrated!
